How do I protect
currants |
| Currants just
like other cultivated plants are attacked by different pests
and diseases. Below I present a list of the most important diseases
and pests which attack currants, and chemicals which I use to
eliminate them. I advice to apply presented chemicals changeable,
because usement of the same detergent for a longer time decreases
it's effectivness (pests and diseases immunize). Unfortuantelly
mechanical harvesting damages currant shrubs what makes it more
prone to pests and diseases (espacially ----- "Thomasiniana
ribis"), against which plants need to be sprayed right after
harvesting). If the harvester works on other plantations, disinfection
is needed while travelling to different plantations because
pests and diseases may be transfered. My farm is situated in
the valley of "Wislok" river, so it runs a risk of spring light
frosts which occur about the end of April and the begining of
May. That's why during April when the temperature decrases below
zero I spray plants with 1.5% solution of water and fertilizer
what in some degree protects flowers from frozing. |
